Charles Floate (born April 1996) is a British search engine optimization (SEO) consultant, entrepreneur and investor. He is best known for his early "God of SEO" blog, his work in black-hat SEO and link building, and for helping to scale the link-building marketplace PressWhizz.[1][2]

Floate began working in SEO as a child and built one of the largest personal followings in the industry, training thousands of practitioners, authoring numerous SEO courses and books, and speaking at more than 40 conferences across five continents.[1][2] A polarising figure known for openly documenting black-hat techniques, he has been profiled in the technology press as a precocious young entrepreneur.[4] After roughly two years scaling the link-building marketplace PressWhizz as its chief marketing officer, he stepped back in 2026 to an advisory role while retaining his ownership stake in the company.[6]

Early life [edit]

Floate was born in April 1996 in Solihull, England.[1] He has said he first became involved in SEO at the age of twelve—taking on his first client at thirteen—after his family's business was poorly served by a digital agency, which pushed him to learn website building and marketing himself.[1][2] Floate did not formally complete secondary school, but has since lectured at universities and industry events.[1]

Career [edit]

"God of SEO" and early SEO work

Floate first gained attention through his blog "God of SEO," where he published guides and case studies drawn from his experience ranking websites in Google's organic search results.[1] He became particularly associated with black-hat SEO strategies, peer reviews, tutorials and experiments in algorithm manipulation.[1] Over his career he has run and sold several agencies and built a portfolio of authority websites, later relocating through Canada and Mexico before basing himself in Thailand.[1]

Training, speaking and writing

Floate has trained thousands of SEOs—including operators who went on to run seven-figure agencies—through his Charles Floate Training platform and invitation-only masterminds held in London and New York, and has reported more than $5 million in combined consulting and course sales.[2] He has authored numerous SEO guides and books, among them Parasite SEO Secrets, The Six-Figure Freelance SEO and Omniscient OnPage SEO, and has said he produced more than 2.5 million words of content across roughly 500 blog posts, case studies and talks.[1][2]

He spoke at more than 40 conferences across five continents—among them BrightonSEO, Chiang Mai SEO (CMSEO) and DMSS—before largely stepping back from the speaking circuit after roughly 50 presentations; he returned to the BrightonSEO stage in 2026 to present research drawn from more than 1.5 million outreach emails on how link building and visibility are shifting in AI-powered search.[1][5] According to his own profiles, his career and case studies have also been written up in outlets including The Times, TechCrunch and Entrepreneur.[2]

PressWhizz

Floate spent roughly two years scaling PressWhizz before moving to an advisory role.

Floate became a part-owner and chief marketing officer of PressWhizz, a link-building marketplace and SEO tool that launched publicly in September 2024 and entered full-scale operations in early 2025.[2][3] Under his marketing leadership the company grew rapidly, reporting tens of thousands of publishers and a substantial increase in recurring revenue within its first year.[2] After about two years driving that growth, Floate stepped back in 2026 to act as an advisor to PressWhizz while keeping his equity stake.[6]

Other ventures

Alongside PressWhizz, Floate has operated a range of SEO-related projects, including Charles Floate Training, ParasiteSEO.com and SEO.Careers, and describes himself as an investor working toward a portfolio of digital and angel investments.[1]

Approach and reputation [edit]

Floate's SEO philosophy emphasises strategy over raw spend, prioritising high-authority, intent-matched link building and "trust signals" designed to withstand Google's core updates, alongside deep competitor and SERP analysis.[2] He has been an early proponent of incorporating AI into link-building and ranking workflows.[2] Within the industry he is widely recognised—and frequently described as a provocative or polarising figure—for openly documenting aggressive, experimental and black-hat techniques; one technology outlet dubbed him "the SEO Boy King."[1][4]

Personal life [edit]

Floate is based in Koh Samui, Thailand, having previously lived in Chiang Mai as well as Canada and Mexico.[1] He married in 2025, with a wedding celebration planned for 2027, after which the couple intend to take an extended six-month tour of Europe.[6] He has spoken of an ambition to move toward full-time angel investing.[1]
